Cumbria Wild Game

Game meat is back on the menu and more popular than ever before, which is great news for Steve Pymm of Cumbria WildGame.

He is the gamekeeper and holds the estate sporting rights at Greystoke Castle, near Penrith, where he organises shooting parties and deer stalking during the season.

Greystoke Gamekeeper

A member of the British Deer Society and the National Game Keepers Organisation, he has over 20 years experience and is licensed to inspect game before it enters the food chain.

All game resulting from the shoots Steve runs is properly inspected, transported, stored and prepared to the highest standard before going out to the customer who can be assured they are buying something that is “distinctly Cumbrian.”

Wild, natural and free-range, game has a distinctive flavour and is fast becoming an alternative to beef, pork, lamb and chicken.

It’s also low in cholesterol and high in protein, and is healthier than many red meats. Venison, for example, is an extra lean meat, so it’s perfect for anyone on a low fat or low cholesterol diet.

Steve provides a selection of speciality, seasonal game meats for the Taste of the Lakes shop, including venison (Roe deer, a wild, native species of the Greystoke Castle estate); pheasant, partridge, wild duck (mallard and teal), woodcock and snipe.
